COMMUNICATION 1: DEFENDING HUMAN RIGHTS OF MRS IPEK (FERANEK) FERID
The document provided to you in Table 1 is the translation of the original text but its style is simply bizarre and therefore we summarize it for your attention. The head of rhe Revolutionary Court, Branch 104, in Tebriz, Kiyanush Shukuh, issued his judgment to 28 defendants in one session and all in one go.
COMMUNICATION 1: DEFENDING HUMAN RIGHTS OF MRS IPEK (FERANEK) FERID

This is Communication 1 to defend human rights of Mr. Feranek Ferid (whose penname is Ipek as to be used here), a veteran of feminism and the movement for woman’s right in Southern Azerbaijan, an activist of the national movement of Southern Azerbaijan and environmental campaigner for saving lake Urmu. The Iranian authorities arbitrarily detained her on 3 September 2011 together with hundreds of other Southern Azerbaijani prisoners of conscience, as pointed out by our Briefing Note 2 (Ref: 546/ 2011, on 5 Sep 2011). Table 1 presents the form for her defence detained arbitrarily with the specific details of her case.
COMMUNICATION 1: MR LEYSANLI: “I STRESS THAT SHOULD SOMETHING HAPPEN TO ME, THE CAUSE SHALL NOT BE MY HUNGER STRIKE”
This is Communication 1 to defend human rights of Mr. Abbas Leysanli (or Lisani, or Lesani), a veteran of the national movement of Southern Azerbaijan and one of the founders of its activism based on the Universal Human Rights Declaration. The Iranian authorities arbitrarily detained him on 8 September 2011 together with at least 12 other Southern Azerbaijani prisoners of conscience. Even prior to his arrest and subsequent detention, he was under constant harassment, as pointed out by Briefing Note 2 (Ref: 546/ 2011, on 5 Sep 2011). Table 1 presents the form for the defence of the individuals detained arbitrarily with the details of Mr. Leysanli. We also learned on 1 October 2011 that Mr. Leysanli has been taken from a detention facility in Erdebil to a detention facility in Tehran, some 500 Km away from his family in Erdebil. We are therefore very concerned with his wellbeing and safety and the risk of torture against him.
BRIEFING NOTES 2: TWIN TEBRIZ/URMU REBUFFED THE INVADING PERSIAN FORCES
Urmu and Tebriz, the twin cities of Southern Azerbaijan watching over Lake Urmu from West and East, brought their environmental campaign to a climax on 3 September 2011 and this document updates you on the key events further to Briefing Note 1 (Ref: 545/2011 on 30 August 2011), as follows:
• The protests materialized just before 6.00 p.m. as per time in Tebriz and jus half an hour later this bold act materialized in Tebriz; both inspired each other.
• The Azerbaijani activists brought to life the protests orchestrated in the cities centres to the screen of GünAzTV, the national TV of Southern Azerbaijanis broadcasting from Chicago, not before long circa 18.30 and this was a concrete proof for the event.
BRIEFING NOTES: THE REVIVAL OF LAKE URMU –NATIONAL MOVEMENT OF SOUTH AZERBAIJAN ENTERS A NEW PHASE
This Note is a briefing of the historic events on 27 August 2011, the Designated Day of Action for the Revival of Lake Urmu, which took place in Urmu, a provincial capital and the second biggest city of Southern Azerbaijan, as well as in Tebriz, the historic capital of Azerbaijan. The revival of Lake Urmu is a demand of the highest priority, owing to water levels falling at such an alarming rate that its obliteration is inevitable within a few years if no action is taken now.
